Playing an old sailor’s ballad called the “Banks of Newfoundland” by the sea on the beautiful Isle of Harris, Scotland. I’ve been playing this tune a lot recently and couldn’t think of a better location to film this video. Popular amongst sailors on both sides of the Atlantic, this old ballad dating back to the 1800’s tells the story of a hard crossing through heavy seas from Liverpool to Newfoundland across the Atlantic Ocean in the days before steam power and is loosely based on the older ballad “Van Diemen’s Land”.
