In 1963-4 it didn't matter to music lovers in 11 countries that they couldn't understand what Belgian nun Sister Luc-Gabrielle; Soeur Sourire, Jeannine Deckers, was singing about the founder of her order, St. Dominic. They grooved to the cheery song, one of the few foreign language number 1 hits in America. Though I studied French for many years, I didn't get more than fifty percent of it. That's why I am providing a translation with the help of the internet and my French colleague philipchek who informed me about the Albigensian heretics, the Inquisition, the Catholic Church, and St. Dominic.
