“Day By Day” written by Sammy Cahn, Axel Stordahl,& Paul Weston was originally recorded by Frank Sinatra on August 22, 1945 as a romantic ballad with Axel Stordahl arranging and conducting. He took a completely different approach when he recorded it again on March 20, 1961 in a wonderful, swinging arrangement by Billy May for the Come Swing with Me! LP released by Capitol Records on July 31, 1961. This version features features a somewhat novel demonstration of stereo separation in the brass sections from one channel to the other. The album is available on CD on Capitol and can also be found on The Capitol Years 21 disc box set. I do not own the right to the song, audio, or images contained in this video.
