Description
Track 7 from his fourth album, “Just Before The Bullets Fly” copyright 1988 Epic Records. His best solo album, in my opinion, with strong material and the band performing at their peak. Dan Toler’s emotional guitar playing and unique sound are a highlight that I feel should have made this album more successful. The Allman Brothers Band would reunite the following year for a summer tour to celebrate their twentieth anniversary. That reunion would lead to them signing with Epic and releasing a string of new albums, beginning with “Seven Turns” in 1990. This song was written for his youngest daughter at the time, Delilah Island Alllman. Written by Gregg Allman, Dan Toler, Tony Colton & Johnny Neel and produced by Rodney Mills. RIP Dan Toler, Bruce Waibel, David Toler & Gregory Lenoir Allman. Featuring:
Gregg Allman – Lead vocals & Hammond B-3 organ
“Dangerous” Dan Toler – Lead & rhythm guitars, keyboards on “Night Games”
Tim Heding – Keyboards & background vocals
Bruce Waibel – Bass & background vocals
David “Frankie” Toler – Drums
Chaz Trippy – Percussion
Sometimes it seems like only yesterday
Other times, more than a million years
Oh, little girl, sweet as any angel
When I think of her I laugh and drown in my own tears, whoa
You drew your first breath so close to me
Now we've been apart for years and years
The sea can wash the land away, tide's turnin' every day
All I really came to say is I still love you, my sweet Island
Maybe time will someday build a bridge for us
Somewhere further down the line
I ain't the type to call or write, I know
But for you, this song, show you who's on my mind
The sea can wash the land away
Tide's turnin' every day
All I really came to say is
I still love you, my sweet Island, oh
Whatever they might say about my silence
Remember I'm an island too
But we're connected by more than an ocean
My blood runs in you
The sea can wash the land away
Tide's turnin' every day
All I really came to say is come see me
I still love you, my sweet Island, oh-ho
I still love you, my sweet Island
