Description
James O'Brien unpacks Bob Vylan's 'death to IDF' chants at Glastonbury, examining both public reaction and media coverage.
During their Glastonbury performance yesterday, Bobby Vylan led chants of "free Palestine" and "death to the IDF, in protest against Israel’s ongoing military action in Gaza.
The crowd joined in with the calls and footage of the performance is now under review by Avon and Somerset Police to determine whether any offences were committed.
Glastonbury organisers have since released a statement saying the duo “very much crossed a line,” adding that “there is no place at Glastonbury for antisemitism, hate speech or incitement to violence.”
James O'Brien acknowledges what he calls the BBC’s “epic editorial failure” in broadcasting what was “effectively Kneecap’s support act.” But he also questions why some people appear “more offended by a rapper than by what's happening in Gaza.”
