Description

First published in Banjo Paterson's "Old Bush Songs" in 1905, it tells the tale of two shearers, flush with money after completing a large shearing contract, who were determined to carry their swags through the old town of Gundagai, on their way to the big smoke - Sydney.
However before reaching Gundagai, they stopped into an infamous drinking and lodgings hole run by the equally infamous Lazy Harry.
A pub full of tasty grog and beautiful barmaids, who so impressed the shearers with their friendly welcome, that the shearers forgot about Gundagai, let alone Sydney - and decided to stay for a week!
The place was full crammed full of travellers, shearers, itinerants, ex-convicts etc and the band played lively dancing tunes every night.
A near-perfect scene for our two lonely shearers determined to "knock down their cheque."

"We camped at Lazy Harry's on the road to Gundagai, the road to Gundagai -
Not five miles from Gundagai!"
