The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past 🗡️

I remember playing this game as a kid in the 90's and hated this theme because it sounded *too SCARY!*
Over time though, I've come to appreciate the underlying beauty in this piece.

The original feels ominous and foreboding, like you're entering a dungeon where a trap might go off at any moment and put you in danger. Those dissonant strings and soaring trumpet always kept me right on the edge of my seat (and still give me anxiety!)

In my arrangement I wanted to change the tone completely through the instrumentation. Instead of charging in to this temple to fight, maybe you just happened to stumble upon these ancient ruins in the forest. With the flute, harp, and strings I wanted to convey the wonder of discovering a forgotten place from previous time. The way nature slowly takes over and destroys what was built, but also breathes new life into the structure. The duality is fascinating.

I've been working on this arrangement on and off since about 2022, I could never figure out how to do the harp part because the chromaticism makes it very tricky for moving the pedals to change keys constantly. It feels great to finally bring it to life. I also filmed the scenic footage of the old building in the Minnesota woods, I thought it fit the vibe of the piece. Hopefully this song helps someone out there fall asleep, that to me is the highest praise 😴

PS: also...I upgraded to a gold Yamaha Alto Flute since the 123 instruments 👀
