Description
Bismellahe ArRahmane ArRahim
Mara Beboos, is among the most legendary, evergreen Iranian songs.
It's a song, sang by mothers as lullaby to their children, It's common to hear people humming this tune or singing it to themselves, under their breaths.
I remember as a school girl in Iran we used to sing this song to each other (although in jest for the most part).
But what makes this song stand out is it's story behind it. Legend has it that this song was written by a political prisoner during the monarchy rule & he wrote it for his daughter on the night before his execution. Although this song was first sang in 1955 by an obscure singer, Golnaraghi, it became an instant hit when it hit the airwaves, the station was flooded with requests & didn't take long for people to memorize the words & sing it to themselves & one another.
Throughout the decades the song was performed numerously by a number of most prolific & talented Persian singers, therefore giving it a classic status.
Although there's no question about the loveliness of this song, I hope this video captures the mystery behind 'Mara Beboos'.
