Description
As the Strauss waltzes are to the Viennese, so are the danzas to the Puerto Rican and, as the Chopin waltzes are dances for the soul, so are the danzas. The danza always starts with "the walk" -- an introductory section when supposedly the dancing couples, ladies' arm around gentlemen's arm, walk around an imaginary circle on the ballroom floor. Then, the dance begins, fragmented into repeated, varied melodic sections, until the recapitulated finale, in intense passion, brings the dance to its impetuous end. Is this danza dedicated to two sisters ... two friends ... two lovers?! The music seems to be asking a question, begging for an answer ... which never comes!
