Description
・About The Composition・
"In the late 1990s, I wrote 2 African pieces for 2 pianos. The polish harpsichordist, Elisabeth Chojnacka (for whom I had written a piece in 1985) was visiting a friend and teacher of mine, the pianist Lise-Martine Jeanneret. They played though the 2 African pieces, and as a consequence Elisabeth asked me to arrange one of them for harpsichord and tape/or African percussion. Then in 1999 she commissioned a work for Harpsichord and African percussion for her and the French percussionist Xavier Mertian. As a consequence I wrote "Umbhiyozo waze Afrika" The work was based on various African inspired ideas and rhythms. The third movement is for Uhadi bow and harpsichord. The work was subsequently recorded by OPUS 101." - McLachlan
