I used to be a young black girl struggling with #selfconfidence in a world that dismisses and discredits us often, and this poem changed the course of my life. Now I'm known as an accomplished actress, poet, and associate professor. I met Nikki Giovanni in 2004, and my book She Rose: on a journey from girl to #Goddess, was released in 2006. When Ms. Giovanni gave me an endorsement for my cover I was astounded.

This video clip showcases me setting the stage for a Black history play called, "A Passage through Time." It was produced by the United Nations of Dance in Florida. Given my I'm a history buff, and I've vast experiences as a commercial, stage, and film actress, my interpretation of "Ego Tripping" was more than a mere performance. It was my way of giving thanks to all the wise women in history who came before me including the author of the poem.
