Description
Franz Grothe composed this lovely song for the Zarah Leander movie "Ave Maria" (1953).
This was another melodrama in which Zarah's character, Karin Twerdy, leads a double life. To her daughter, who is at an exclusive school, she is a famed Scandinavian singer. In reality she is known as Marita, the owner of the "Taubenschlag", a cabaret in Hamburg. When her daughter falls in love with the son of a wealthy industrialist, the drama unfolds. When his father (Zarah's frequent partner Hans Stüwe) finds out her real identity and confronts her, she sells the cabaret and fakes her own death so her daughter can be happy... Of course in the end, mother and daughter are reunited and Zarah sings the Ave Maria at the christening of her grandchild...
Although Zarah Leander sang "Wenn die wilden Rosen blüh'n" frequently during her concerts, she only recorded this Swedish version in 1953. A German version was recorded later in the 1950's.
